Retired people did not cause financial meltdown

I FULLY accept Tom Kindlon’s points in his letter (‘State pensioners spared budget cuts’, January 19).

I acknowledge his good faith that I am not living in luxury. I can also see that no one, either on welfare or on pension, should have to take a cut.

State pensioners have been very fortunate to keep what little they had. Why treat them as objects of derision? The ideal concept of equality becomes absurd if it proclaims equal poverty for everybody.
