Let bankers pay for a voluntary confession

A FIANNA Fáil inquiry into banking? No thanks. They’ve spent enough taxpayers’ money propping up the banks, paying off a financial regulator who was asleep at the wheel and setting up NAMA.

Let bankers pay for a voluntary confession

There’s no need to spend more of our money on a whitewash that talks about systemic failures and punishes no one.

I propose an alternative. Let the bankers spend their time and money explaining to us what happened.

If they don’t cooperate or answer questions, we the public can take our own actions. Those of us without mortgages could close the account and move to a different bank.

If you can’t do that, I would suggest that immediately after pay day, take out what spare cash you have in your account, leaving in enough for mortgages, etc. Put the rest in the credit union. If enough of us do this, it will show we don’t take things lying down and that the days of moaning among ourselves are over.

Does post-Celtic Tiger Ireland have the guts to stand up for itself — or is it still business as usual?
