Telling the ESB

IN light of the recent and ongoing flooding downstream of Parteen weir in Co Clare, is it unreasonable to suggest the ESB be added to the list of statutory consultants to be notified by planning authorities on receipt of a planning application.

In the same way that the NRA may comment on applications affecting national roads, surely the ESB should be advised of prospective developments on flood plains – at least applications pertaining to flood plains on rivers they control, such as the Shannon.
