Real ale and bitter are best left in Britain
Michael Job’s enthusiasm for British pubs and their undrinkable traditional warm beer (Letters, September 10) is misplaced.
In my experience the foul brew known in Britain as “bitter” is well named and the so-called natural version, called “real ale”, is worse.
As for British pubs, anyone who knows Britain will be familiar with the far-too-common dirty establishments with their none-too-clean customers who think nothing of bringing their dogs into the bars. As for British pub food, it’s often dire, especially when served in company-owned chains.
No, Irish pubs are streets ahead on hygiene, general cleanliness and food quality. And while the beer may not be “natural”, at least you can drink it.
