Healthcare should be free – but not roads

HAVE those opposing the closure of Bantry A&E and the dismantling of the health service in general stopped to think where the money to save them, given the economic crisis, is going to come from?

Politicians and public alike seem to think the money for healthcare and roads comes from a magic bottomless pit.

In my view, healthcare, but not roads, should be completely free at point of use. Obviously we cannot afford both. The introduction of road tolls to pass on all direct and indirect costs to the road-user could make the healthcare cuts unnecessary.
