Andrews was selective in his call for resignation

I NEVER realised till lately it was possible to feel refreshed and nauseated at the same time.

Andrews was selective in his call for resignation

I found it refreshing at last to hear a Government minister calling for someone to resign because of wrongdoing — Barry Andrews’s call to Bishop John Magee.

But then I contrasted that with Mr Andrews’s silence when his former leader Bertie Ahern was telling the most fanciful tales at the Mahon Tribunal about where he got all that multi-denominational cash, disgracing the office of An Taoiseach in the process.

Mr Andrews was not alone in his silence — all of his Fianna Fáil colleagues were conspicuous by their absence in calling on Ahern to put the country first and resign.

Neither have I heard him or his cabinet colleagues insist the board members of the beleaguered banks should resign.

Could it be the bishop is a soft target for the politicians, or am I being too cynical?
