Friendly city needs to drop two unfriendly habits
I think Cork is a vibrant and friendly city, but there are two niggling issues I’m sure some of your readers will agree with.
Firstly, Cork can easily claim first prize in Europe for dog turd on the streets. Ever seen a dog warden or heard of an owner being prosecuted?
Maybe dog-owners should have to demonstrate how they dispose of their pets’ droppings other than on the pavement, or face a realistic penalty?
Secondly, there is the cost of tea/coffee and eating out in general in Cork compared with other European cities. Recently in Berlin, some friends and I reflected on our experiences of eating out in Cork. Given the attentive service, food quality and portion sizes in mainland Europe, I think it’s reasonable to expect to be served freshly-prepared in-house vegetables and dishes in Cork — not frozen and reheated factory produce we can buy in supermarkets.
I think Cork residents could enjoy the city a little more if these two issues were addressed?
