The real backbone of our communities

IT was with great pleasure and joy that I read Terry Prone’s article “Every neighbourhood should have a woman like Mrs Linders” (August 4).

The real backbone of our communities

It was refreshing because it is people such as Mrs Linders who are the real backbone of communities around the country. While visiting a rural community in Ballymacelligiott, Tralee, I too met some outstanding women — women who are unknown outside their own vicinity but whose influence, compassion and love reaches out to communities around the world. In this instance, hard work was going into the preparation of a local dance and draw in Ballymacelligiott Parish Hall on August 15, the entire proceeds of which are being donated to the FCJ Mission in Burma to help people in the aftermath of cyclone Nargis.

Thank you to Terry Prone. May we all recognise and acknowledge these wonderful “Mrs Linders” in our midst.
