Infill hazards: I was right

YOUR report (July 19) that Cork County council is to examine sites of former landfills is welcome news.

This is a follow-up to the finding of confidential material at a site in Glounthaune and the uncovering of dangers toxic waste in Haulbowline.

With human life and the environment at stake, I compliment you for highlighting both scandals. It is journalism at its best.

I had a letter published (June 4) under the heading ‘Toxic dump raises questions about infill sites’. In it I said I have always had fears about the creation of infill sites and the monitoring, if any, of materials dumped and buried in them. My fears, unfortunately, were only too well founded.
