Public misled over true nature of Lisbon treaty

GAY MITCHELL accused Libertas (Letters, April 1) of misleading the public about the Lisbon treaty — yet he has not a word to say about the mass deception involved in the treaty itself.

Public misled over true nature of Lisbon treaty

Former French prime minister Valéry Giscard d’Estaing is on record as saying the explicit intention of the architects of the treaty was to mislead the public: “Public opinion will be led to adopt, without knowing it, the proposals that we dare not present to them directly.”

Almost the entire content of the earlier rejected European constitutional treaty has been preserved through the so-called treaty of Lisbon, although small, cosmetic changes have taken place

According to German Chancellor Angela Merkel, in a speech to the European parliament, there is no essential difference between the treaty of Lisbon and the earlier rejected European constitutional treaty: “The substance of the constitution is preserved. That is a fact.”

And the original goal of the earlier rejected constitutional treaty was to give a constitutional form to a supranational federation.

This was confirmed by Belgian prime minister Guy Werhofstadt in an interview with the Financial Times in 2004: “The constitution is the capstone of a European federal state.”

That EU leaders, and their lackeys such as Gay Mitchell, would deliberately mislead the public about their intentions and the true nature of the Lisbon treaty displays the most dangerous arrogance imaginable.

In Ireland we have a unique opportunity to make a last stand for freedom against a bullying, unelected and dictatorial EU elite.

Let’s ensure we don't waste it.
