Taoiseach indicted by his own evidence

ONE has to wonder exactly what point Declan Harmon (Letters, March 13) is trying to make.

Fair enough, the Mahon Tribunal has failed to link any corrupt payments made to the Taoiseach specifically relating to the Quarryvale development, but that’s no longer the issue, is it?

During the course of the tribunal, it has been the Taoiseach’s testimony that he put political donations to personal use, that the movement of monies through his accounts were far in excess of his salary at the time, that he himself has been forced to ‘revise’ false statements he had previously made.

I put it to Mr Harmon that the Taoiseach has proven himself, by his own admissions, untrustworthy.

Furthermore, what the tribunal has demonstrated is that Fianna Fáil has reduced the politics of this country to nothing more than a popularity contest where the winners are awarded with personal gain, lifetime financial security and accountability to no-one.
