YOUR columnist Matt Cooper (March 8) declared that Tánaiste and Minister for Finance Brian Cowen “effortlessly demolished Enda Kenny’s attacks on him for propping up Ahern, flooring a visibly distressed Kenny with his comment ‘you are neither qualified nor able’ to judge Ahern”.

In effect, Matt Cooper lauds Cowen for choosing to respond to the Fine Gael leader by using pompous, vulgar abuse in order to avoid answering a question or addressing a political issue.

Is it any wonder that incompetent or uncaring ministers feel so invulnerable when sections of the media have such puerile standards when reporting or commenting on politics?
