Lenihan medical fund: a case of real treachery

DEPUTY Mary O’Rourke recently offered us definitions of treason (Letters, January 26).

If she is looking for a practical example of treachery in Irish politics, she could, perhaps, point to the situation whereby Charles Haughey was found to have stolen from the charity which was set up to pay for medical treatment for her late brother, Brian Lenihan.

When asked to comment on this by the media at the time, Ms O’Rourke had very little to say.

Her silence then stands in stark contrast to her willingness now to make frivolous and inaccurate use of the terms ‘treason’ and ‘treachery’.
