Crown affair reveals new line in intimidation

THE ‘neutralising’ of Prof John Crown by forces within RTÉ loyal to the Soldiers of Destiny is hardly a new phenomenon given the lacklustre, monotonous discussions which take place on that station weekly and the unwillingness of ministers to appear on any show which might permit serious critics of their incompetence and mismanagement to face them down.

However, the Taoiseach’s reference to Prof Crown’s lucrative private practice explores new territory in intimidation. Is it the case that successful doctors and businessman (or even property speculators) who might feel some empathy with the poor in Irish society, such as the victims of the chaotic public health service (and are willing to speak out on their behalf) are in some way breaking ranks and letting down their peers?

I thought the ‘Ansbacher Society’ had been dissolved.
