What happens if a patient brings MRSA or winter vomiting bugs into the hotel?

TO say I was appalled to read Prof Brendan Drumm’s opinion on catering for “non-critical” patients in hotels would be an understatement.

A hospital cares for its patients’ needs and people should be able to enter one without having to stay in a hotel.

Someone in need of medical care needs to be under the correct supervision and treated accordingly as their needs change.

If you are moved to a hotel, do you dial for room service if you feel your condition is deteriorating?

Our hospitals are dealing with MRSA and winter vomiting bugs on a regular basis now.

Is the HSE chief executive suggesting that an individual enter a hospital to be seen to and comes in contact with patients and staff only then to be moved to a hotel?

What happens if MRSA and/or the winter vomiting bug are spread from the hospital to the hotel? Could the hotel then sue the health board for loss of earnings?

What if a guest staying at the hotel contracts something like this?

What are the implications?

Anyone in need of medical care should be looked after in a hospital environment.
