Shannon claims just don’t ring true
I have used the Shannon- Heathrow service, on average, once a month for the past seven years. Those flights are morefull now than any time in the past. Aer Lingus claims “only 25%” of passengers use the Heathrow connections for an onward flight. I regularly buy a second separate cheap ticket on another airline from Heathrow to Stockholm. Aer Lingus can have no idea of where I am going after I land in Heathrow. It surely is only using the data for passengers on an Aer Lingus (or British Airways or other code-share partner) “through” ticket.
It is also claimed that the Heathrow to Shannon flights have “been in decline” for three years. However, Aer Lingus no longer offers business class and is charging less money for a seat now compared to years ago. So, if it is getting less money per flight (even though still profitable), perhaps that is what the company means by “decline”. Shannon to Heathrow flights are always full.
