Sargent should have made his intentions clearer

THE Green party and Trevor Sargent have sold out, plain and simple.

Sargent should have made his intentions clearer

Bertie Ahern must be laughing up his sleeve. Mr Sargent promised he would never lead the Greens into government with Fianna Fáil.

Any fair-minded voter would have understood that to mean the Greens would not join a coalition with FF, if asked.

However, what he actually meant, apparently, was that he would step down as leader first before jumping into bed with Fianna Fáil. He should have made his intentions clearer to the electorate. Oh well, too late now. Roll on the Mercs and perks. I hope Mr Sargent will have a troubled conscience as he zips along the M3 and recalls the destruction of the Hill of Tara.

Soon he will find he has sold his birthright for a mess of pottage because Bertie will never allow the Greens to have any real power.
