Road safety - Enjoy the weekend, take care

FROM festivals of opera, jazz, dixie and blues, to laughing cats, harbour racing, hill-walking, bull and marathon running, this Bank Holiday weekend offers more events than ever, so go out and enjoy yourself.

The only visible damper on the festivities could be the changeable weather conditions amid forecasts ranging from warm and cloudy, blustery winds, showery and cool.

Otherwise, a kaleidoscope of events, from Donegal to Dublin, Kilkenny, Wexford, Cork and Killarney, promise to make it a weekend to for all to remember.

Tragically, Bank Holiday weekends also tend to attract lunatic fringe drivers with a frightening capacity to wreak havoc on the roads.

With 138 lives already lost in accidents this year, if motorists avoid drink-driving, resist the urge to speed, and take heed of safety precautions, it could be a weekend everyone can enjoy. Let’s keep it that way.
