Mahon Tribunal - Taoiseach to get no special treatment

IF anything has become clear in the controversy surrounding the Taoiseach’s murky financial dealings in the mid-1990s, it is that Mr Ahern is getting precisely the same treatment as any other person appearing before the Mahon Tribunal.

That is put beyond doubt by tribunal chairman Judge Alan Mahon, who “absolutely and categorically” rejects claims of bias levelled against the tribunal by the Taoiseach’s lawyers.

The tribunal would be failing in its duty to the public if Mr Ahern was treated differently to other witnesses.
