Bomb victims’ relatives suffer another injustice

THE Oireachtas subcommittee tasked with investigating loyalist atrocities North and South in the 1970s has found there was serious British collusion in the events.

The subcommittee didn’t pull any punches when it described the atrocities as acts of international terrorism. It also criticised a number of Irish governments for the manner in which they dealt with those events.

Why did they give up on trying to establish who was behind the attacks, and why did garda investigations into them cease?

So what happens now? One of the subcommittee members, Finian McGrath TD, and the victims’ relatives, called for a full public inquiry.

But will the relatives get what they are looking for, and deserve?

It would appear the British are not the only ones who would prefer to let sleeping dogs lie.

I have a feeling this report is as near as the relatives will get to the truth and the Taoiseach’s refusal to grant them a public inquiry means they are victims of yet another injustice.
