Road carnage: Who wants a crackdown?

FINE GAEL’S Olivia Mitchell wants the gardaí to have more resources in order to combat the carnage on our roads.

But would this actually work? Suppose we waved a magic wand and provided the gardaí with both the resources and the legal instruments to police the roads in a draconian fashion, would there be the will among politicians to face down their constituents?

The reason I am concerned about this is because Galway Corporation have done away with their private clamping company and several councillors in Cork seem keen on following their lead.
