Menace of path cyclists

I’VE recently had a hip replacement and on my first day out in Patrick Street in Cork, I was almost run over by a speeding cyclist.

My doctor told me that if I had been struck by the bike, I would have been wheelchair-bound.

The city council has a policy on tables and chairs causing obstruction to people with impaired mobility, but it has no intention of dealing with the ever-increasing danger of cyclists on footpaths. My request for ‘No Cycling’ signs brought this response: “We do not intend to erect signs to stop cyclists cycling on the footpaths as we feel there is no necessity”.
