It's been a turbulent year online, with hate speech, riots and videos of violent assaults all disrupting our feeds. The new media watchdog, however, has big plans for tackling the online platforms. Sean Murray reports
Media watchdog intent on 'making a difference' in 2024

Jeremy Godfrey is chairman of Coimisiún na Meán, Ireland’s agency for regulating traditional and online media, and for media development.

“Next year [2024] is the year we start delivering for the public. To demonstrate we’re making a difference — that’s the key for next year.” Jeremy Godfrey didn’t pull his punches when asked what success looks like in 2024.

“There’s only a point in us existing if the platforms change their behaviours to keep people more safe,” he said.
