The Taoiseach has led condolences to former senator and businessman Billy Lawless, who has died at the age of 73.
The Galway native became a successful publican after moving to Chicago in the 1990s and went on to be a prominent campaigner for the undocumented Irish in the US.
Simon Harris described Mr Lawless "a gentleman to his core", in leading tributes to him.
Mr Lawless was made a senator in 2016 having been appointed by then-taoiseach Enda Kenny. He served one term.Â
"He was a businessman at the top of his game, and he was a person who accepted a challenge from former Taoiseach Enda Kenny — to travel from Chicago to Leinster House to represent the Irish diaspora.
"He did his work with diligence and great pride; he was great company, and he was an extremely kind man.
"To his family and large circle of friends and colleagues, I am truly sorry for your loss," Mr Harris said.
