The Government has experienced no bounce in public opinion arising from Budget 2024.

The latest Red C poll for the Business Post suggests that Sinn Féin remains the most popular party in the State with 32% of support, up a point. However, Fianna Fáil and Fine Gael each slip a point to 15% and 20%, respectively, while the Greens hold at 4%.

There are rises of a point each for the Labour Party and Social Democrats, who are at 5% and 6% while People Before Profit stays at 3% and Áontú falls a point to 2%.

Independents and others stay unchanged at 12%.

The polling also showed that 56% of people weren't satisfied with the level of cuts to the USC in the budget and more than half supported President Michael D Higgins' criticism of European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen in light of her trip to Israel following the October 7 attacks by Hamas.

The poll extends a streak of leads by Sinn Féin which dates back to June when Fine Gael was a point ahead of Mary Lou McDonald's party on 30% of support.

The online poll surveyed 1,018 people between Friday October 20 and Wednesday October 25, just over a week after the Government announced an €11bn budget package.
