Gardaí seize almost €600,000 in drugs as man charged in Cork investigation

Cocaine and cannabis were recovered during searches in Cobh and Cork city as part of an ongoing drugs investigation

The operation began with a search of a business premises in the Cobh area, before gardaí carried out a number of follow-up searches at a location in Cork city.

A man in his 30s has been charged following the seizure of almost €600,000 worth of suspected drugs during a garda operation in Co Cork.

The man was arrested after searches carried out by the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit and the Cork County North East Divisional Drugs Unit on Thursday.

He has since been charged and is due to appear before a special sitting of Cork District Court at Anglesea Street at approximately 1.30pm on Saturday.

The operation began with a search of a business premises in the Cobh area, before gardaí carried out a number of follow-up searches at a location in Cork city.

During the searches, officers seized suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €484,000 and suspected cannabis worth approximately €108,000, bringing the total estimated value of the drugs recovered to €592,000.

The seized drugs will now be sent for forensic analysis.

The man was detained under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996 before being charged.

Gardaí said investigations into the case are continuing.
