Gardaí recovered a wild bullfinch in the St Mary's Park area.

Gardaí have recovered a wild bullfinch in Limerick after searching a property in Limerick.

As part of a multi-agency operation led by the National Parks and Wildlife Service (NPWS), National Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (NSPCA) and Limerick Dog Warden Services, a premises in St Mary's Park was searched under warrant on Wednesday.

The operation was part of an ongoing investigation targeting the illegal trapping and possession of wild birds.

A male Bullfinch (Pyrrhula pyrrhula) was surrendered to NPWS operatives.

A Garda spokesperson said no arrests have been made at this time.

"Investigations are ongoing," they added.
