Autopsy underway after deaths of mother and newborn baby in Tipperary
An autopsy is being carried out today on a mother to determine the cause of her death, along with the death of her newborn daughter.
The tragedy was discovered at the family home in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary, at around 1pm on Friday.
The person who made the discovery, believed to have been known to the woman, contacted emergency services.
The woman and her baby were pronounced dead at the scene.
While gardaí are awaiting the results of the post-mortem examination, investigators believe the deaths may have resulted from a medical tragedy.
The family home, in the Greenhill Village area of the town, was sealed off to allow for technical examinations.

The results of the autopsy examination will form part of a file gardaí are preparing for the coroner to assist with an inquest.
It is understood the woman was from Eastern Europe, and gardaí have been trying to contact family members.
A short statement issued on Friday by Garda Headquarters said: "Gardaí and emergency services attended the scene of an incident at a domestic residence in Carrick-on-Suir, Co Tipperary, this Friday afternoon, May 8, 2026.
"A woman in her 30s and an infant were pronounced deceased at the scene. The scene remains preserved for examination.
"A post-mortem examination will take place, which will determine the course of the investigation."
