Gardaí are appealing for witnesses and for road users with camera or dash-cam footage.

A man, aged in his 30s, has died after his car was discovered in the River Bride near the Conna Road in Co Cork.

The man was believed to be on his way to meet friends when the incident occurred between Conna and Aghern, on the R628 between Rathcormac and Tallow.

He is believed to have died shortly after leaving work in a nursing home in northeast Cork after 10pm last night. He had planned to meet with friends but never showed up.

Social media posts seeking information about the man's whereabouts were shared online. They were removed on Saturday morning after his car was discovered.

His body has been removed to Cork University Hospital where a post-mortem examination is planned.

The road between Conna and the former Big Tree pub in Aghern is closed for a forensic collision investigation.

It is understood that gardaí believe the car may have been in the water for several hours before being discovered before 10am on Saturday morning.

Gardaí are now appealing for witnesses and for road users with camera or dash-cam footage who were travelling on the R628 between 10pm on Friday 19 and 10am on Saturday 20 December to come forward.

Anyone with information is asked to contact Fermoy Garda Station on 025 82100, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.

The investigation remains ongoing as authorities work to establish the circumstances surrounding the fatal collision.
