Man in critical condition after serious assault in Cahir

A man is critically ill in hospital after a serious assault on a street in a Co Tipperary town.
The man, who is in his 20s, was injured on Abbey Street and Barrack Street in Cahir after 1.40am on Saturday morning.
Gardaí sealed off the area this morning as they conducted a forensic examination of the scene.
Garda sources have described the incident as serious, with the man suffering severe injuries in the assault.
Emergency services treated him at the scene before bringing him to Tipperary University Hospital, where he remained in critical condition on Saturday morning.
Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to contact them.
A statement said: “Any persons who were in the vicinity of Abbey Street and Barrack Street, Cahir between 1:15am and 2:00am on Saturday 20th December and who may have video footage (including dash-cam) are asked to make this footage available to investigating Gardaí.
“Anyone with any information is asked to contact Cahir Garda Station on 052 744 5630, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda station.”
