Limerick’s Troy Studios 'busy again' as Mid-West builds reputation in movie industry
Most recently Troy Studios hosted the production of 'The Wayfinders', a US fantasy TV series employing over 120 local crew.
Limerick’s Troy Studios has been on quite a roll over the last couple of months - largely thanks to the production of two US TV shows.
The 26-acre studios, located in Castletroy, is Ireland’s newest and largest studio facility.
The Limerick-based studio was sold alongside Ardmore Studios in Bray by Olcott Entertainment to an American-joint venture, for a reported $100m.
The two studios were taken over by California-based property group Hackman Capital Partners, its studio operator affiliate, the MBS Group, as well as investment house Square Mile Capital Partners.
However, in recent years, Ardmore and Troy Studios experienced contrasting fortunes, as the Castletroy studio was left vacant after the removal of a ‘regional uplift’ movie tax incentive.
Managing director Elaine Geraghty, who looks after Ardmore Studios and Troy Studios, said the Limerick facility is now “busy again”.
“It is kind of, not reopening, but there's a big interest in Limerick because it's getting really busy again. The global production industry took quite a significant hit following the writers and actors strikes.

“It’s fair to say the global production industry is now coming back into life. I think that's relevant in relation to the activity levels at Troy, because we're not unaffected by something that's happening at a global level in the US for example,” she told the .
The popularity of the Mid-West as a film location has been slowly developing. According to Ms Geraghty, it takes time for a region to “develop” a reputation.
“It takes time to be able to offer the resources that are required to base a location outside of what would be known as the usual production location bases.
“The Mid-West has built that reputation. It’s hugely exciting, particularly because we're dealing with a truly local production,” she said.
Most recently Troy Studios hosted the production of , a US fantasy TV series employing over 120 local crew and engaging more than 50 local suppliers in the Mid-West.
It also welcomed the production of for Fox Entertainment, a US game show hosted by Niecy Nash, in April 2025.
To the surprise of many, the studios also played host to dance act Faithless, who made their Limerick debut in June, as part of a two-night ‘Ireland Underground’ tour.

“When you're asking people to try something new in a region they may not have been in before, they've got to take a chance on it. Right now, it is working and it's the beginning we hope of something very fruitful.
“But without being a cliché, it takes a village. It does take a whole region,” she said.
According to the CEO, what is missing is further regional support.
“While everybody is working really, really hard to make this project for the Mid-West and for Limerick in particular work, continued support in terms of regional is absolutely critical.”
