For the general weekend forecast, Met Éireann says Friday morning cloud will gradually clear this afternoon, giving way to sunny spells and isolated showers. Afternoon temperatures will range from 17C to 21C in westerly breezes.
Cloudy conditions will return tonight, though most areas are likely to remain dry. Rain will begin to develop in the southwest by morning.
On Saturday morning, showery outbreaks of rain will develop in the southwest, slowly extending over much of Munster during the afternoon and later into south Leinster and south Connacht, bringing the possibility of spot flooding.
Elsewhere, conditions will be somewhat drier with sunny spells and scattered showers, some of which could be heavy with isolated thunderstorms.
Highest temperatures will range from 16C to 21C, coolest in the southwest, with moderate to occasionally fresh southeasterly winds.
Saturday night will bring continued showery rain, spreading northwards over much of the country and reaching northern areas by early Sunday.
By then, drier and clearer conditions will begin to develop in the southern half of the country. Overnight temperatures will range from 10C to 15C in moderate cyclonic variable winds.
On Sunday, Met Éireann says there will be "a mix of sunny spells with showers or showery outbreaks of rain." Rain may turn heavy at times, with a continued risk of thunderstorms, particularly in the north.
Southern areas will be generally drier, with temperatures between 17C and 22C.
Sunday night will start off mostly dry with clear spells, though showery rain in the north, and the possibility of thunderstorms, will gradually extend southwards.
Lowest temperatures will range from 8C to 13C in mostly light northwesterly breezes.
