Gardaí appeal for information following fatal Cork crash

Gardaí have issued a renewed appeal for information following a fatal collision in Cork that resulted in the death of a woman in her 50s.

The single-car collision occurred on February 11 at Sarsfield Court in Glanmire and the two occupants of the car were taken to hospital with injuries.

One of the two, a woman in her 50s, suffered serious injuries in the incident and was taken to Cork University Hospital (CUH). She was pronounced dead on Tuesday.

She was named locally as Sheila Dunne, a mother-of-two who worked as a special needs assistant at Watergrasshill National School in Co Cork.

She was predeceased by her husband Ted and was originally from Newcastlewest in Co Limerick. 

The second occupant, a woman in her 40s, received treatment for non-life-threatening injuries.

Gardaí are appealing for any witnesses to this collision to contact them.

Any road users or pedestrians who were in the vicinity of Sarsfield Court, and who observed a white SUV vehicle travelling in the area at the time of the incident, is asked to contact investigating Ggrdaí. Anyone with camera footage (including dash cam) is asked to make this available to investigating Gardaí.

Tributes

Warm tributes continue to pour in for Sheila, who is survived by her children Lilley and TJ, her parents Esther and Dan, brothers Donal and Vincent, sisters-in-law, brothers-in-law, nephews, nieces, relatives and a large circle of friends and colleagues.

In a statement on social media, the Rainbow Club charity said that they were “heartbroken” to lose one of their “gorgeous mammies” Sheila.

“We had the privilege of having Sheila, her gorgeous late husband Ted & their beautiful children Lilley & TJ part of our family since we opened our doors and we will cherish every moment we spent with you Sheila. We will miss your gorgeous smile and your wonderful hugs. We have no words.

All our staff & Board Of Management send their condolences to Lilley, TJ & their family.

We are heartbroken to say goodbye to you our gorgeous friend, we will never forget you.” Sheila was also fondly remembered in Watergrasshill National School where she was described as having been a warm, generous and kind person.
