A Cork hotel has denied claims it deliberately hiked prices as heavy floods left homes and businesses badly damaged.

More than a month's worth of rain fell in the space of 24 hours on Tuesday and Wednesday which resulted in businesses and homes being destroyed in the process.

Clean-up operations continued across Cork on Thursday and Friday morning but a number of roads were still impassable.

The Radisson Blu Hotel and Spa in Little Island, according to social media reports, had allegedly raised the price of its room from €130 to €899.10 for October 18, which was the day of the local flooding.

However, in a statement, the hotel said the price hike seen on the website was incorrect and was caused by an "employee error".

"On Tuesday, October 17, an employee error resulted in the hotel's website offering incorrect rates and availability for the following day, October 18," the statement said.

"This error was made the day before local flooding. The management team investigated the issue and it was resolved by mid-afternoon on October 18."

The hotel apologised for any inconvenience caused and added that it provided complimentary rooms to those affected by the flooding.
