Man admits eight charges in Cork connected to €120k drug seizure and money-laundering

Gardaí had uncovered €70,000 worth of cannabis and €49,000 worth of cocaine in February

Signed pleas of guilty were entered by a man on charges arising out of the seizure of cannabis and cocaine totalling approximately €120,000, and €29,000 in cash being the proceeds of crime.

25-year-old Jake O’Sullivan with an address at a room in Achill House, Western Road, Cork, and, formerly of Fairfield Road, Farranree, Cork, appeared before Cork District Court where he signed pleas of guilty to a total of eight charges. 

The most serious counts were of money-laundering and having drugs for sale or supply where the value exceeded €13,000 — the threshold figure for a 10-year minimum sentence unless there are exceptional circumstances.

On the application of Sergeant Aisling Murphy, the accused had the case against him sent forward for sentencing at the sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court commencing on October 27.

In this case, drugs unit gardaí uncovered €70,000 worth of cannabis and €49,000 worth of cocaine — together with cash totalling just over €29,000 — from two different locations in Cork City in February. 

Detective Garda Ryan Dillon of the Cork City Divisional Drugs Unit previously told how gardaí carried out a search at a property on Fairfield Road, Farranree, on February 10 and discovered €70,000 worth of cannabis and €49,000 worth of cocaine and €16,515 in cash.

The detective said they then conducted a follow-up search at Achill House, Western Road, Cork. He said they found the second sum of cash, €12,600, together with a weighing scales at a room at Achill House on Western Road where the accused had been staying.
