Cork woman accused of burgling house and stealing wallets claimed she only wanted to use the toilet

Accused claimed 'two lads from Barcelona or Brazil' had planted the wallets in her coat

A woman who was accused of being involved in the burglary of a home in Gurranabraher on Wednesday night claimed in court on Thursday she only went into the house to use the toilet.

She also blamed two men for putting their wallets in the pocket of her coat.

Donna Crowley, of Kinlay House, Cork, was brought before Cork District Court charged with carrying out the burglary where it was alleged she stole two wallets and a bottle of perfume.

Sergeant David Fleming said there was an objection to bail being granted to the accused and there were Garda concerns she would commit further offences if released.

Ms Crowley said in her application for bail: “I was making my way home to Kinlay House and I wanted to use the toilet. The lady allowed me to use it. I did not commit a burglary.

“And two lads from Barcelona or Brazil put wallets in the pocket of my coat and then said I robbed them.

“I cannot go back to jail. I will comply with anything you want [as conditions of bail].” 

Judge David Waters said the accused was unlikely to attend court if granted bail under any conditions and he added she was likely to commit more offences if released.

The 35-year-old was remanded in custody until September 24.

She was also before the court in for several public order charges related to earlier dates.

The alleged burglary charge relates to 11pm on September 16 at St Nicholas Square, Gurranabraher, Cork.
