Man, 40s, charged in connection with serious assault in Meath

Emergency services were called to the scene of an incident at a house in the village of Ballivor on Monday at 7am.

A man in his 20s was taken to Mullingar Hospital after suffering injuries and was then transferred to Beaumont Hospital.

A man in his 40s was arrested in connection with the investigation and was being detained at a garda station in Co Meath under Section 4 of the Criminal Justice Act, 1984.

He has since been charged and is due to appear before Trim District Court this Wednesday morning. 

A garda spokesperson said the injured man in his 20s continues to receive treatment at Beaumont Hospital.

Gardaí had appealed to anyone who witnessed the incident to come forward.
