Cork man charged for second time with possession of €100,000 worth of drugs

Case was struck out four weeks ago due to delay in DPP directions

Defendant is accused of having €79,000 worth of heroin and €21,000 worth of cocaine at his home last year.

A €100,000 drugs case that was struck out because of delay has been brought for a second time against a 21-year-old man accused of having €79,000 worth of heroin and €21,000 worth of cocaine at his home last year.

Four weeks ago, the case was struck out because of the DPP delay in giving directions in the case.

Now, at Cork District Court, charges have been brought again. Detective Garda Kian O’Sullivan charged Scott Arundel with the counts that were previously struck out. 

In addition, he charged him with having drugs where the street value exceeded €13,000, which carries a minimum sentence of 10 years unless the judge finds that there are exceptional circumstances.

The background allegations in this case are that on June 11, 2025, gardaí executed a warrant at the defendant’s home on Harbour View Road, Knocknaheeny, Cork.

Gardaí allegedly located a shopping bag concealed under the stairs within the kitchen. containing a smaller plastic bag within which was located about 300g of suspected cocaine valued at €21,000.

A black Nike back pack was also seized within the hot press at the property, and this allegedly contained 20 individually wrapped quantities of suspected diamorphine, with a total weight of 565g. The value of the suspected diamorphine is €79,000.

The total value of the suspected controlled drugs seized was €100,000.

It was alleged an electronic weighing scales with brown and white residue on its surface and plastic bagging similar to that used to bag the diamorphine was located within the kitchen drawers at the address.

On the application of Sergeant Aisling Murphy, the case against Scott Arundel was adjourned until July 28 at Cork District Court.
