Eight people are due to appear in court on Wednesday in relation to an operation targeting a "transnational" organised crime group.

The investigation follows a significant nationwide targeting of criminal activity of a number of participants, as well as the leadership of a criminal organisation suspected of being involved in facilitating a number of serious drug-related Intimidation attacks nationally.

On Tuesday night, three women, aged in their 30s and 40s, and one man, aged in his 30s, were arrested in Cork, Laois and Carlow by investigating gardaí.

They were charged in relation to "an ongoing investigation into an organised crime group" and are due to appear before various district court sittings on Wednesday morning.

Additionally, on Wednesday morning, four men — three in their 40s, and one in their 30s — will appear before the Criminal Courts of Justice, Dublin, Thurles District Court, and Carlow District Court for charges related to this investigation.

Tuesday night's operation follows a number of arrests which were made earlier in February and April.

This investigation has been ongoing since November 2024, with gardaí saying that it is centred around the disruption of the activities of the group, dismantling their ability to function and enhance their group, and ultimately, prosecuting all members of this group who operate within this jurisdiction.
