A third person has been charged with the murder of Gerard 'Ger' Kennelly who was stabbed in Kerry in May.

Kane Hornyak, aged 27, was charged with Mr Kennelly’s murder at a special sitting of Cork City District Court on Sunday.

Mr Kennelly, aged 36, was stabbed at Knockanure near Listowel on May 27.

Two other people appeared in court charged with Mr Kennelly’s murder on Thursday.

Detective Garda Donnacha Coakley said that he met the accused by arrangement in Togher Garda Station on Sunday after 12pm.

Mr Hornyak, of Doon Rd, Ballybunion, made no reply when he was charged and cautioned, the court heard.

Det Garda Coakley applied for the accused to be remanded in custody.

Mr Hornyak's solicitor Pádraig O’Connell said that he would make an application for bail for his client in the High Court, but that application would take some time.

Judge Joanne Carroll remanded him in custody to appear again in person in Tralee District Court on Wednesday, November 6.

She assured Mr O’Connell that the prison governor would be directed to provide the accused with all appropriate medical care and medications while in custody.

Mr O’Connell said that his client qualified for free legal aid. Legal aid was granted.

Two other people have also been charged with Mr Kennelly’s murder.

Kieran Brady, aged 35, from Athey, Co Limerick and Abigail Lynch, aged 22, of Woodview Place, Tarbert in Co Kerry, were charged with Mr Kennelly’s murder on Thursday.
