A man has been seriously injured in a suspected knife attack at a takeaway in Dublin, feet away from where a man was stabbed to death there last year.
Weapons used included a machete and a knife in an attack launched by a number of individuals in Ongar which is suspected of having gangland links.
Pools of blood had gathered at the entrance and a man was seen lying on a window sill seemingly exhausted with blood-soaked feet in a video understood to be from the scene.
Gardaí confirmed that they received reports of an assault at a premises in Ongar, Dublin 15, shortly after 12.30am on Monday.
“A man in his 20s received serious injuries and was taken to Connolly Hospital, Blanchardstown. The scene is currently preserved for technical examination and investigations are ongoing,” a statement said.
The attack at a Domino’s pizza in Ongar village took place just feet away from where Aaron Keating, aged 43, was fatally injured last June 13 last year.
Gardaí are appealing for anyone with information to contact Blanchardstown Garda Station on 01 666 7000, the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111, or any Garda Station.
This latest assault comes hours after a father of two was stabbed to death in nearby Finglas. A manhunt is still underway for a convicted killer who is suspected of stabbing Mark Carroll to death in a residence early on Sunday morning.
Mr Carroll, a 34-year-old father-of-two, was treated at the scene before he was rushed by ambulance to Connolly Hospital. He was pronounced deceased there a short time later.
Gardaí and emergency services had attended a residence in the Scribblestown area shortly after 1am on Sunday where Mr Carroll was found with serious injuries. A suspect was quickly identified who had previously been convicted of a fatal shooting. He had been released from prison last year.
A relative of Mr Carroll said they felt “numb” following his death in a tribute on social media.
Gardaí are investigating the fatal assault and are appealing for witnesses to come forward, particularly those who were in the Scribblestown area between midnight and 1am. Additionally, individuals with video recordings, including motorists with dash cams, from the area within the timeframe are asked to provide footage to investigating gardaí.
