Man charged with murder in Kerry to apply for bail after being further remanded in custody

A 66-year-old man has been further remanded in custody after he appeared via video link before a sitting of Tralee District Court on Wednesday morning charged with the murder of 84-year-old Paddy O’Mahony at his home in Castlemaine, Co Kerry, on February 24.

Thomas Carroll of Brookway, Clonmel, Co Tipperary, is charged that he did murder Patrick O’Mahony at Ballyraemeen, Castlemaine, on February 24, 2024. The charge is contrary to common law.

Thomas Carroll appeared via video link from Cork Prison. He confirmed his name to the court.

An application was made by Detective Sergeant Ernie Henderson to amend the charge sheet from Ballyraemeen to Ballyraemeen Upper and also from the District Court area of Tralee to the District Court area of Killorglin.

Judge David Waters allowed the amendments to be made.

The State’s application was for further remand to again appear via video link at Tralee on March 20, Sergeant Chris Manton, prosecuting, said.

Pat Mann, solicitor for Mr Carroll, said a bail application was before the High Court and may be heard on Thursday.
