A book of evidence was served on Friday, March 1, on a 41-year-old Cork man accused of possession of child sex abuse images at his home in 2018.
Detective Garda Eimear Brennan charged the accused man, Cormac Walsh, formerly of St Finbarr’s Road, Cork, earlier this year.
The charge states that on September 28, 2018, at the defendant’s home address he did knowingly have in his possession child pornography, namely child abuse material consisting of 14,402 images and 731 videos, stored in storage drives/facilities within several electronic devices seized at his home.
Sergeant John Kelleher confirmed that a book of evidence had been served in the case and he applied to have it sent forward to the next sessions of Cork Circuit Criminal Court commencing on April 8.
Defence solicitor Aoife Buttimer said the accused was no longer living at the address referred to in the charge sheet.
Judge Mary Dorgan extended legal aid for a barrister to also represent the accused at the circuit court.
Bail conditions require the defendant to sign on once a week at Anglesea Street garda station and bail was set at €5,000 without any cash lodgement being required.
