Man in his 70s dies after being hit by car in Co Kilkenny

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them

A man in his 70s has died after being hit by a car near Callan, Co Kilkenny.

The incident happened on the R691 at Desart Demesne at about 5.50pm on Friday, October 30.

The man was pronounced dead at the scene and his body has been taken to University Hospital Waterford.

The people in the car did not require hospital treatment.

The road has been closed for an examination by garda forensic collision investigators, with local traffic diversions in place.

The local coroner has been notified and an autopsy will be carried out.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who witnessed the collision to contact them. They are also asking anyone who was travelling in the area at the time and may have dashcam or other camera footage to make it available to investigators.
