The woman found dead in suspicious circumstances in Dublin on Monday morning had posted a photo of herself with visible facial injuries just hours earlier.

Loredana Morosanu, also known as Loredana Simion, was found when gardaí responded to a report of an incident at Melville Terrace in Finglas shortly after 4.30am on Monday. A man known to her was arrested at around 11am on Monday.

He remained in garda custody this afternoon. An autopsy was due to take place today.

She was the 12th woman to die violently in Ireland so far this year, compared with seven for the entire 12 months of last year.

At around 11.30pm on Sunday night, Ms Morosanu posted a photo of herself on one of her Facebook accounts, showing what appeared to be blood on her hooded top and an injury to her face.

She had become engaged earlier this year. She worked in a pharmacy in Dublin and had lived in Ireland for a number of years. She was originally from Romania.

Women’s Aid said: “We are heart sore to hear about the violent death of Loredana Morosanu in Finglas yesterday.

"Loredana was killed in her own home, a place where everyone has the right to feel safe. A man known to Loredana has been arrested. Our thoughts and solidarity are with Loredana’s family, friends, and community as they deal with this appalling tragedy.”

The National Women’s Council called for Government action to help prevent violent deaths of women.

It stated: “We are devastated to hear of the tragic death of Loredana Morosanu over the bank holiday weekend.

"Every woman deserves to live free from violence and fear. Now more than ever, Government must take urgent action to tackle violence against women and prevent further lives being lost. Rest in peace, Loredana.”

Offaly Domestic Violence Support Services said it was deeply saddened by the death.

The organisation stated: “Another woman’s life lost to violence. Another family facing unimaginable grief. Behind every headline is a person whose life mattered, whose future mattered, and who deserved to live in safety.

"Violence against women must never become something we grow accustomed to. We need sustained action, accountability and a shared commitment to women’s safety in every community.

"We remember Loredana and stand in solidarity with all those grieving her loss.”
