Gardaí investigate third shooting in ten days amid spate of Dublin violence

Gardaí are investigating another gun attack in Dublin south central – the third shooting in the area in the past 10 days.

The locality has also seen two arson attacks and a reported attempt to ram people with a car.

It is not clear if all, or any, of the violent incidents are connected, though some local sources suspect they may be linked to either a feud or local drug dealing.

In the latest incident, shots were fired at a home in Kilmainham overnight on Tuesday. No one was injured.

A Garda HQ statement said: “Gardaí responded to reports of a firearm discharge at a residential premises in Kilmainham, Dublin 8 in the early hours of Wednesday 30 September 2026.

“No injuries were reported at this time. Investigations are ongoing.”

Two arson attacks

It followed two arson attacks in the early hours of Monday morning, one in Inchicore, which adjoins Kilmainham, and another in neighbouring Ballyfermot.

Gardaí confirmed they were investigating incidents of “criminal damage by fire” at the homes, which were extinguished by Dublin Fire Brigade.

Gardaí said no injuries were reported in either case and that they were investigating them.

The incidents this week followed a spate of violent events last week, starting with a shooting in Inchicore on Monday night.

A father and a son were in a stationary van when someone approached and opened fire, but neither person was hit by the shots. Gardaí confirmed they were investigating.

In the early hours of last Wednesday, there was a shooting near Bluebell, located between Inchicore and Ballyfermot. Shots were fired at a block of new apartments across the Naas Road from Bluebell.

It is thought the father targeted on Monday was again the intended target. No one was injured.

Further incidents reported

Later on Wednesday, there were reports of a car driving into Bluebell, where an attempt to ram some young people was made. It is not thought that anyone was injured.

There was another suspected arson attack at a home in Crumlin, a short drive away, on Thursday night, when damage was caused to a wall of a house. It is not clear if this is related to the other incidents.

Local Sinn Féin councillor Daithí Doolan, who is chair of the Local Community Safety Forum, said: “It is the third shooting in ten days in this area of Dublin. It also comes after a number of petrol bomb attacks on houses in the wider area.” 

He urged those involved to stop: “They are putting our communities under severe strain. They need to stop before someone is seriously injured or worse.” 

He repeated his call for the justice minister Jim O’Callaghan to meet with local representatives and the community.

“The government must allocate resources so we can tackle the causes and consequences of this violence before it is too late,” Cllr Doolan said.
