A man has been killed in a road accident in Co Sligo, gardaí said.

Gardaí have appealed for witnesses to the incident which happened near Luke’s Bridge in Gortnaleck, Grange, at approximately 3.55pm on Saturday.

The pedestrian, a man in his 40s who was the owner of the van involved, was pronounced dead at the scene.

His body has since been removed to the local mortuary, where a post-mortem examination will take place in due course. The coroner has been notified.

The road was closed for a technical examination by garda forensic collision investigators which has since been completed and the road has reopened.

Gardaí are appealing to anyone who may have witnessed the incident to come forward.

Road users who were travelling in the vicinity of Luke’s Bridge in Gortnaleck between 3.30pm and 4pm on Saturday and who may have camera footage, including dash-cam, are asked to make it available to investigating gardaí.
