Two arrested after €2.3m drug seizure in Dublin

Two men have been arrested following the seizure of controlled drugs worth an estimated €2.3 million in Blanchardstown, Dublin 15, on Friday.

The seizure was made as part of an intelligence led investigation into the sale and supply of controlled drugs.

A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána revealed today that the men aged in their 50s and 60s were arrested in connection with the seizure and are currently being detained at a garda station in the Dublin Metropolitan Region under Section 2 of the Criminal Justice (Drug Trafficking) Act 1996.

Gardaí from the Dublin Crime Response Team (DCRT) observed and intercepted the handover of suspected drugs in a public place in Blanchardstown on August 28.

During the operation, gardaí seized approximately 18kg of suspected cocaine with an estimated value of €1.8 million.

An additional 4kg of suspected cocaine, with an estimated value of €400,000, was recovered from a vehicle at the scene.

Further searches were subsequently carried out by investigating gardaí and as a result of those searches, approximately 5,000 MDMA tablets, worth an estimated €50,000, and 4kg of cannabis herb, with an estimated value of €56,000, were seized.

The total estimated value of the drugs seized is €2,306,000.

The drugs will now be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.

“Investigations are ongoing,” a garda spokesperson said.
