A man and a woman have been arrested following the seizure of cocaine worth an estimated €100,000 in Roscommon last weekend.
A spokesperson for An Garda Síochána revealed on Wednesday that a woman, aged in her 50s, and a man, aged in his 40s, were arrested in connection with the seizure.
While the woman has since been released without charge from garda custody, the man remains detained under Section 50 of the Criminal Justice Act 2007.
The seizure came as part of ongoing investigations into the activities of an organised crime group based in Sligo, with gardaí conducting an operation from August 14 to 16.
As part of the operation, gardaí from the Sligo/Leitrim Crime Functional Area, supported by the Garda National Drugs and Organised Crime Bureau, stopped and searched a vehicle in Carrick-on-Shannon, Co Leitrim, and another in Keadue, Co Roscommon.
Suspected cocaine with an estimated street value of €100,000 was seized during the operation.
A file in relation to the arrests and seizure will be prepared for the Director of Public Prosecutions, and the drugs will be sent to Forensic Science Ireland for analysis.
“Investigations are ongoing,” a garda spokesperson said.
