Man found dead in Dublin recycling facility had been sleeping rough in Cork

A man found dead in a recycling facility in Dublin had been sleeping rough in Cork City in the days before his death.

Andrew Haire, 35, was helped by homeless services in Cork City last Thursday, the day before his body was found in a Greyhound Recycling facility in Clondalkin, Dublin 22.

Mr Haire was not from Cork but had engaged with homeless services in the city a number of times during the month.

Gardaí in Cork are now investigating the circumstances of the man’s death and are working to establish Mr Haire’s last movements.

His body was discovered at a recycling facility in Dublin shortly after 9pm on Friday. Waste from collection trucks is emptied and sorted at the site.

Mr Haire's body was later removed for a post-mortem examination that was conducted on Saturday. The results will not be released for operational reasons.

Mr Haire had been availing of welfare and homeless services in both Dublin and Cork city centres.

It is believed he was in Dublin, Kilkenny, and Cork city centres between Friday, July 17, and Friday, July 24.

Gardaí are seeking the public’s assistance in establishing Mr Haire's movements at that time.

Anybody who knew or interacted with Mr. Haire between that week or anybody who has any information which may be of assistance to this investigation is asked to contact Ronanstown Garda Station on 01 666 7700 or the Garda Confidential Line on 1800 666 111.

Aveen Moore, communications manager for Greyhound Recycling, urged people to contact gardaí with any information that might help in the investigation into Mr Haire's death.

"We were deeply saddened by the death of Mr Andrew Haire, whose body was found at our recycling facility in Clondalkin on the evening of Friday 24 July," she said in a statement.

"Our thoughts are with his family and friends. We are co-operating fully with An Garda Síochána and will continue to give their investigation every assistance.

"As this is now a matter for An Garda Síochána, it would not be appropriate for us to comment further."

A family liaison officer has been appointed to assist Mr Haire's family.
